Leo Brouwer is one of contemporary music’s living legends. Acclaimed in his youth as one of the all-time great performers of the classical guitar, the Cuban composer is an Honorary Member of UNESCO and is recognised worldwide as the guitar’s most outstanding living composer for the instrument, and as a pioneer in the fusion of musical styles and genres. As part of his forthcoming visit to London under the auspices of the guitarrísimo series, Leo Brouwer offers two days of public, one-to-one coaching on his own works and the broader classical guitar repertoire. All levels are welcome to participate and/or spectate, from enthusiast through to professional. Participant places are limited to a maximum of x16 and active participation is by prior application only. All classes will be delivered in English.

Active Participants £150 | £130 students and members of IC/ILAMS
Participants receive 30 minutes of public individual tuition with Leo Brouwer and a certificate awarded by the Instituto Cervantes and ILAMS, signed by Maestro Brouwer. Fees includes a complimentary pass to all other masterclasses and events in the Brouwer guitarrísimo series (talk and concert).
Spectators (Per day) £15 | £12 students and members of IC/ILAMS
Series Pass £45 | £35 students and members of IC/ILAMS

APPLICATIONS / BOOKINGS

Active Participants Guitarists interested in participating actively in the masterclasses should send a CV along with details of the proposed repertoire they would like to work on with maestro Brouwer by 17th March 2017 by email to cultlon@cervantes.es or by post to Cultural Office, Instituto Cervantes London, 15-19 Devereux Ct, London WC2R 3JJ. Instituto Cervantes will communicate the final shortlist to all applicants by 22nd March.

Two giants of the classical guitar world set the world to rights in a public interview at London's favourite classical guitar venue, the Bolívar Hall, as John Williams interviews his longstanding friend and collaborator, Leo Brouwer, on life, music and guitars. Leo Brouwer is one of contemporary music’s living legends. Acclaimed in his youth as one of the all-time great performers of the classical guitar, the Cuban composer is a Honorary Member of UNESCO and is recognised worldwide as the guitar’s most outstanding living composer for the instrument, and as a pioneer in the fusion of musical styles and genres. John Williams is considered by many to be quite simply the best classical guitarist in the world performing today. Please note that this event does not feature any live performances. Advance booking highly recommended!

Leo Brouwer is one of contemporary music’s living legends. Acclaimed in his youth as one of the all-time great performers of the classical guitar, the Cuban composer is a Honorary Member of UNESCO and is recognised worldwide as the guitar’s most outstanding living composer for the instrument, and as a pioneer in the fusion of musical styles and genres. A selection of leading young UK artists honour Leo Brouwer’s visit to London with a bespoke programme of his chamber works, curated by the pre-eminent Cuban guitarist, Ahmed Dickinson. London’s Bolívar Hall provides a heavenly acoustic in which to hear some of Brouwer’s greatest works, including the Beatles-inspired quintet, Beatlerianas, and other favourites such as the Canción de cuna. Guitarist and rising star Andrey Lebedev will also perform the Sonata No. 5 ‘Ars Combinatoria’, which he recently premiered at St John’s Smith Square as a special commission for the Julian Beam Trust, and the concert closes with a performance of Paisaje cubano con lluvia for guitar orchestra, conducted by Maestro Brouwer himself.
